Frank’s violent childhood in South Philadelphia primed him to hate, while addiction made him easy prey for a small group of skinhead gang recruiters. By 16 he had become one of the most notorious skinhead gang leaders on the East Coast and by 18 he was doing hard time. Teamed up with African-American players in a prison football league, Frank learned to question his hatred, and after being paroled he defected from the white supremacy movement and began speaking on behalf of the Anti-Defamation League. A story of fighting the demons of hatred and addiction, Frank's downfall and ultimate redemption has the power to open hearts and change lives.

As a past member of AmeriCorps*VISTA, former student body president, fraternity gentleman, and current student affairs professional, Donovan uses his personal stories to uniquely connect with his audience. The Power of Choice: How to make positive change in your life and the lives of others

Growing up in foster homes isn't easy for anybody, but for Steve Terry it was especially difficult. After witnessing sexual abuse, alcoholism, drug use, and even suicide, all by the age of ten, Steve¹s future looked bleak.

At 13 Steve moved back home with his alcoholic mother and new step-father and within the year Steve was being physically abused. By the end of his junior year of high school, Steve was granted permission by a judge to live on his own. With no place to go, Steve turned to a couple low-level drug dealers for a place to stay. Working two jobs and barely able to make it by, Steve paid rent with money he made by selling drugs to high school students.

Over the next few months, Steve¹s drug use increased from low-level marijuana to inhalants and meth. It wasn¹t long before Steve started skipping all of his classes and was set to fail out of high school. After being arrested several times for drug and alcohol violations, Steve¹s future was looking more and more destructive. Steve¹s life was about to take a dramatic turn. One incident changed his life forever and scared him into seeking out a new direction.

During this powerful presentation you will hear Steve¹s moving, real-life story surrounding issues of drugs, unsafe sex, and self-destructive behavior. Steve will leave your group surprised, moved, and challenged. He focuses on the importance of making healthy choices including responsible alcohol use, safe sexual activity, and staying away from drugs. Audiences appreciate Steve¹s experience in leadership development and how his life demonstrates the power of choices. Most importantly, they recognize that his program has a lasting and life-changing impact.

Steve is currently the Greek Life and Leadership Programming Coordinator at the University of Missouri Kansas City. A former Staff Sergeant and Veteran of the U.S. Army, Steve received his undergraduate degree in Speech Communication at Northwest Missouri State University, his Master¹s of Education in Higher Education at The Pennsylvania State University, and is currently working towards a PhD. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Kansas.

This is a powerful and interactive presentation that allows Greeks to recognize the common stereotypes that we face everyday and strategies that we can all use to stop the perpetuation of those often pessimistic labels. We will examine what we think it means to be in a fraternity/sorority and what we should come to expect from our members. As a group we will discuss the importance of values within our organizations and how, as leaders, we can foster better relationships between the Greek, campus, and external communities. This presentation touches on topics that range across major issues facing Greeks including: hazing, alcohol abuse, and sexual violence. (Note: This program contains language and images that some viewers may find offensive.)

Steve Terry is the Greek Life and Leadership Programming Coordinator at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. A former Staff Sergeant and Veteran of the U.S. Army, Steve received his undergraduate degree in Speech Communication at Northwest Missouri State University, his Master’s of Education in Higher Education at The Pennsylvania State University, and is currently working towards a PhD. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Kansas.

Steve provides a variety of presentation topics including: Jumpstart: How to Build an Effective Team; Hazing: Ins and Outs; and Being Greek: Beating the Stereotypes Through Values Based Leadership. How do I donate as a performer or agent?

Thank you for your interest in supporting the work of the Commission for Student Involvement. If you are an agent or professional entertainer or speaker we would be thrilled to discuss your involvement with the silent auction. Professional entertainers have been our biggest silent auction 'sellers' in recent years. If you would like to donate your services please read the following information about our silent auction process and then contact the CSI fundraising chair to finalize details.

The entertainer will provide:

A performance for the winning bidder on a date to be negotiated with the winning bidder within one calendar year of the ACPA Annual Convention.
An electronic photo for the CSI's use in silent auction publicity materials.

ACPA CSI will provide:

An individual posting on the CSI silent auction blog detailing the performance offer with links to the entertainer’s website
Emails to the commission for student involvement listserv - an active community of 1,200 student activities, leadership development, Greek affairs and community and service learning professionals
A listing in the pre-convention edition of Interchange, the commissions award winning newsletter (if submitted prior to publication deadline)
Posters, flyers and handbills distributed during the ACPA Annual Convention

Entertainers who DO NOT receive a successful and paid bid will not be obligated for a performance and will not be paid $500 from ACPA.

Entertainers who DO receive a successful and paid bid, upon receipt of payment from the winning bidder, ACPA CSI will provide:

$500 payable by the ACPA International Office*
Contact information for the winning bidder in order to negotiate the performance date, travel, lodging, meals and other incidentals.

NOTE: Travel, lodging, meals and other incidentals paid will be paid by the winning bidder as outlined in the performance offer and/or as negotiated with the winner bidder.

Contact information for all other non-winning bidders for the respective entertainer (warm leads).

* Payment to entertainers will be made within 30 days of ACPA's receipt of payment from the winning bidder. In order to be paid:

The entertainer must submit to the CSI fundraising chair an invoice indicating a charge of $500 invoiced to ACPA. If the CSI fundraising chair does not receive an invoice the entertainer will not be paid.
Successful bidders must submit payment to ACPA within six weeks after the Convention.

If a winning bidder fails to pay ACPA,

ACPA is not obligated to pay the entertainer,
The entertainer is not be obligated for a performance and
The invoice charged to ACPA will be null and void.

How do I donate books, spirit items, etc?

Thank you for your interest in supporting the work of the Commission for Student Involvement by donating books, professional resources, conference registrations, college spirit items or other items. Please email your donation details to the CSI fundraising chair.

If you will be attending the ACPA Annual Convention we would prefer that you bring your item with you and deliver it at any CSI meeting or function prior to the Convention Showcase.

If you will be arriving after these meeting times or are otherwise committed, arrangements can be made for item pickup at a mutually convenient time and location during the convention.

If you will not be attending the convention, arrangements can be made for mailing the item in advance of the convention.

I won an entertainer! Now what?

Congratulations on your winning bid!

With the understanding that you will most likely be paying with an institutional check (and not cash, money order or personal check at the conference), an invoice will be emailed to you within two weeks after the Convention. Payment, payable to ACPA, will be due 30 days after invoices are mailed. Payments should be mailed to CSI fundraising chair. The mailing address is in the upper right hand side bar of the blog.

After your payment (payable to ACPA and mailed to the CSI fundraising chair) has been received, the commission will contact the entertainer's agent providing notice of you as the wining bidder and your contact information. At that point, you and the agent can negotiate the performance date, travel , lodging, meals and other incidentals.

Please do not contact the agent until you have received a receipt for your payment and the commission has contacted the agent on your behalf.

As a reminder your winning bid is payable to ACPA and entitles you to one performance by the entertainer. The winning bid is not inclusive of travel, lodging, meals or other incidentals.

I won! How do I pay?

Bidding will close and winners will be announced 15 minutes prior to the close of the Convention Showcase.

As a reminder we can only accept cash, money orders, personal checks or institutional checks for payment.

Winning bidders who are present at the close of the auction (highly preferred) may make payment via cash, check or money order (payable to ACPA) at the conference. Receipts will be emailed to you within two weeks after the Convention.

Winning bidders who are not present at the close of the auction will be contacted at their convention hotel and asked to attend the CSI open meeting to pay for and pick up their items. However limited, alternate arrangements can be made for item payment and pick up during the convention.

Institutional checks
For those preferring to pay with institutional checks (primarily intended for winning bidders of speakers and entertainers) an invoice will be emailed to you within two weeks after the Convention.

To obtain a bidder ID number you will need to provide your name, address, office phone number, cell phone number, email address and convention hotel. This can be completed:

To bid in advance of the ACPA Annual Convention

Using your bid number, in advance of the convention you can bid on any items on this site by emailing your bid to the CSI Fundraising Chair. The date and time stamp of the email when received will determine bid precedence if two bids are offered for the same dollar amount.
Bid progress will be updated in the comments section for each item as bids are received.
No email bids will be accepted after 745 pm EST Tuesday, March 23rd. Bids received via email after this time will be considered invalid.
